Physical and Chemical Properties | Colorless liquid. Boiling point 169-171 ℃,61 ℃(1.33kPa). Preparation Method: The sodium methyl mercaptan-anhydrous ethanol solution is heated to boiling, the heating is stopped, and chloroethanol is added dropwise under stirring within 2H. The reaction mixture was concentrated, allowed to stand for cooling, and sodium chloride was filtered off. The filtrate was fractionated under reduced pressure to collect a 68-70 ° C. (2.67kPa) fraction to obtain 2-methylthioethanol in a yield of 74%-82%. Purposes: intermediates in organic synthesis. |
Risk Codes | 20/21/22 - Harmful by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed. |
Safety Description | S23 - Do not breathe vapour. S24/25 - Avoid contact with skin and eyes. S36/37/39 - Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection. |
