2-hydroxyemodin - Introduction
Alkyl 2-hydroxyacetate (2-Hydroxyemodin) is a compound with the chemical formula C15H10O4 and a molecular weight of 254.24g/mol. It is a yellow crystalline solid, practically insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, dimethyl sulfoxide and chloroform.
Alkyl 2-glycolates are commonly used as dyes and pigments for dyeing paper, fabrics and cosmetics. It also has some biological activity, being used as an antibacterial and antioxidant. In addition, 2-glycolic acid alkyl ester can also be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis.
