2-hydroxyemodin - Introduction
Alkyl 2-hydroxyacetate (2-Hydroxyemodin) is a compound with the chemical formula C15H10O4 and a molecular weight of 254.24g/mol. It is a yellow crystalline solid, practically insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, dimethyl sulfoxide and chloroform.
Alkyl 2-glycolates are commonly used as dyes and pigments for dyeing paper, fabrics and cosmetics. It also has some biological activity, being used as an antibacterial and antioxidant. In addition, 2-glycolic acid alkyl ester can also be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis.
There are two main methods for preparing 2-hydroxyacetic acid alkyl esters. One method is from the reaction of 2-hydroxyanthraquinone and chloroacetate. Another method is extracted from Rhein, which is prepared by esterification.
As far as safety information is concerned, 2-hydroxyacetic acid alkyl Ester is a general organic compound, and protective measures should be paid attention to when using it. It may be irritating to the eyes and skin. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as lab gloves, goggles, and lab clothes, during operation. During storage, it should be kept in a cool, dry place, away from fire and oxidizing agents. In the case of accidental exposure or ingestion, seek medical advice immediately and bring a safety data sheet for the compound.
