In vitro study	Sivelestat inhibits neutrophil migration and adhesion to endothelial cells.
In vivo study	In a newborn piglet model, siverlestat effectively reduced neutrophil induction and activation in the lungs and improved oxidation after cardiopulmonary bypass. By inhibiting neutrophil elastase, sivelestat has a direct effect on accumulating, activated leukocytes, effectively protecting leukocytes against the production of oxygen free radicals and cytokines.
