Nature:
1,3-dioxolane, 2-(3-buten-1-yl)-2-methyl-is a colorless liquid with a special aromatic smell. It has a low boiling point and a high flash point and is soluble in many organic solvents, such as ethers, ketones and chlorinated hydrocarbons. It can form explosive mixtures with oxygen.
Use:

Method:

1.2,3-Butanediol reacts with an acid catalyst to generate 3,4-dimethyl -1,3-dioxetane.
2. 3,4-dimethyl -1,3-dioxetane is reacted with isopropyl lithium and 3-butene at low temperature to obtain the product.
