24033-03-2 - Introduction
1-benzyloxy-3-chloromethylbenzene, chemical formula C8H8ClO, is an organic compound. It is a colorless liquid with a benzene fragrance. 1-benzyloxy-3-chloromethylbenzene can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis and is widely used in the fields of medicine, pesticide, dye and so on.
In the preparation method, it can be prepared by the condensation reaction of chloromethylation and benzyl alcohol. First, thionyl chloride (SOCl2) is reacted with benzyl alcohol to obtain benzyl chloromethyl ether as an intermediate product. Benzyl chloromethyl ether is then reacted with an alkaline agent to produce 1-benzyloxy-3-chloromethylbenzene.
Regarding safety information, 1-benzyloxy-3-chloromethylbenzene has low toxicity, but it should still be used with caution. It may be irritating to the eyes and skin.
