introduction | potassium pentyl xanthate is an organic sulfur compound with the chemical formula CH3(CH2)4OCS2K. It is a light yellow powder with a pungent smell and is soluble in water. It is widely used in the flotation process used to separate ore in the mining industry. |
Properties | Pentyl xanthate potassium salt is a light yellow powder, relatively stable between pH 8 and 13, and has the greatest stability at pH 10. |
application | potassium pentyl xanthate is a strong collector, which is mainly used for flotation of non-ferrous metal minerals that require strong collector but do not require selectivity. For example, it is a good collector for flotation of oxidized sulfide ore or copper oxide ore and lead oxide ore (vulcanized by sodium sulfide or sodium hydrosulfide). The product can also achieve good separation effect on the flotation of copper-nickel sulfide ore and gold-bearing pyrite. |
Preparation | Potassium pentyl xanthate is prepared by combining n-pentanol with carbon disulfide and potassium hydroxide. CH3(CH2)4OH CS2 KOH→CH3(CH2)4OCS2K H2O |
