In vitro study | Thiazolyl Blue (MTT) is used in conjunction with rhodamine B to measure mitochondrial membrane potential. Thiazolyl Blue-formazan is generated in mitochondria acts as a fluorescence quencher for rhodamine that distributes across membranes of viable cells according to membrane potential. In the absence of mPMS, cellular reduction of Thiazolyl Blue is strong. Thiazolyl Blue is membrane-impermeable when incorporated into large unilamellar liposomes, and therefore it is taken up by cells via endocytosis. |

Biological activity | Thiazolyl Blue (MTT, Tetrazolium bromide, Methylthiazolyldiphenyl-tetrazolium bromide, Methylthialazole Tetrazolium) is a cell permeable and positively charged colorimetric agent, It is widely used to detect reducing metabolism in cells and measure cell proliferation, cytotoxicity and apoptosis. Thiazolyl Blue (MTT) will be reduced from yellow to purple in living cells. |
use | 1. determination of cytotoxicity of drugs (including other treatment methods such as radiation irradiation) on in vitro culture; 2. determination of cell proliferation and cell activity. |
