Overview | Bis (trimethylsilyl) sulfide is an organosilicide, an organic intermediate, referred to as HMDT. |
preparation | bis (trimethylsilyl) sulfide can be prepared by Li2S and TMS chloride in one step. the specific steps are: adding TMS chloride (50.8 mL,0.40 mol) to the magnetic stirring suspension of anhydrous Li2S(9.19g,0.20 mol) in anhydrous THF(40 ml). The mixture was stirred under dry argon for 25 hours, at which time GC analysis of aliquots of the supernatant showed bis (trimethylsilyl) sulfide (87%), siloxane (4.1%) and unreacted TMS chloride (9.2%). The reaction flask is equipped with a small Vigreaux column with a vacuum jacket and distilled to remove THF under argon. Then reduce the pressure, after a short distillation, the bis (trimethylsilyl) sulfide is collected as a clear colorless liquid (29.7g,83%). |
