36519-25-2 - Introduction
Neosolaniol(T-2 alcohol) is a complex fungal secondary metabolite that belongs to the tricyclic Alcohol Group. It is mainly produced by fungi of the genus Fusarium. The chemical structure of T-2 alcohol contains a cyclopentadiene ring, two hydroxyl groups and a nitrile group.
T-2 alcohol has a variety of biological activities, including anti-biological, mutagenicity, cytotoxicity and hepatotoxicity. It is highly toxic to many organisms, including mammals. In large doses, T-2 alcohol can cause severe acute poisoning with potential health and environmental hazards.
However, T-2 alcohols are also used in agriculture and medicine. It is used in agriculture as a fungicide for phytopathogenic fungi. In addition, T-2 alcohols are also being investigated in medicine for the treatment of cancer and other diseases.
In the laboratory, T-2 alcohols can be produced by solid-state fermentation of fungi. Then, the T-2 alcohol with higher purity can be obtained by the steps of extraction, purification and crystallization.
For the safe use of T-2 alcohols, care needs to be taken to observe safety precautions. Due to its high toxicity, appropriate protective measures must be taken, such as wearing protective gloves, masks and protective clothing. In addition, direct contact with skin, eyes or other mucous membranes should be avoided, and good ventilation should be maintained during use.
