37529-30-9 - Introduction
4-decylaniline is an organic compound with the chemical formula C16H27N. The following is a description of its nature, use, preparation and safety information:
Nature:
4-decylaniline is a colorless to slightly yellow liquid with a special amino odor. It is a compound which is poorly soluble in water but soluble in organic solvents.
Use:
4-decylaniline is often used as a chemical intermediate for the synthesis of dyes, drugs and pesticides and other organic compounds. It can also be used to synthesize organic photoelectric materials and liquid crystal materials.
Preparation Method:
4-decylaniline can be prepared by the reaction of benzylamine and decanal. The benzylamine is first reacted with sodium hydroxide to give the sodium salt of the benzylamine. The sodium salt of decanal and benzylamine is then reacted in an ethereal solvent to give 4-decylaniline.
Safety Information:
Exposure to 4-decylaniline should be avoided as it may pose a health hazard. It may have an irritating effect on the skin and eyes and may cause allergic reactions. Wear appropriate protective gloves, goggles and protective clothing during use or handling. When working in the laboratory, follow appropriate safe operating procedures. If the substance is exposed externally, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention as soon as possible. At the same time, the substance should be stored in a sealed container, away from fire and oxidizing agents.
