overview
Pyrene -4,5,9, 10-tetraketone is an organic intermediate, which can be prepared from pyrene through one-step oxidation.
Preparation
pyrene is selected as the starting material, 20.2g pyrene (0.1mol) is dissolved in a mixed solution of 400mL CH2Cl2, 400mL CH3CN and 1000mL of water, 175g(0.8mol) sodium periodate and 2.5g(12mmol)RuCl3 are added into the mixed solution. The mixed solution was kept at 30-40 ℃ for heating and reaction for 12 hours overnight. After the reaction is completed, 3.5L of water is added to the mixed solution and stirred vigorously. Then the aqueous phase is extracted 5 times with 2L CH2Cl2 after liquid separation. The organic phases are combined together, washed with saturated salt water and dried. The organic phase was concentrated to obtain 4.4g of dark yellow solid intermediate 1, pyrene -4,5,9,10-tetraketone, with 17% yield.
