production method | 5-nitro-2-aminoanisole was diazotized with sodium nitrite. The diazonium salt solution is added to a warm solution of cuprous chloride (which may be prepared from copper sulfate, sodium chloride, sodium bisulfite, and sodium hydroxide) under vigorous stirring. The reaction was heated again for 1H after the nitrogen evolution was stopped. The reactant was distilled with steam, and the distillate was cooled and crystallized, filtered and dried to obtain 2-chloro-5-nitroanisole in a yield of 80%. |
