Introduction | 4-bromo-1, 3-phthalic acid is an aromatic polycarboxylic acid derivative. Aromatic polycarboxylic acid derivatives are important chemical and pharmaceutical raw materials, especially aromatic dicarboxylic acids such as terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, phthalic acid, aromatic tricarboxylic acids such as terephthalic acid, trimesic acid, 3,3 ',4, 4'-four carboxyl diphenyl derivatives and other multi-acid compounds, in polymer materials, additives, films, laminates, coatings, adhesive agent, it is of great significance to develop a method for the synthesis of aromatic polycarboxylic acid derivatives. |
preparation | 4-bromo-m-xylene (25.3g,137mmol), KMnO4(100g,633mmol) A mixture of water (1.5L) was heated at reflux for 16 hours. The mixture was cooled to room temperature and filtered with suction. The filtrate was acidified by addition of 6 M aqueous HCl (18.2 mL) and the white precipitate formed was separated by Suction filtration and air dried to give 4-bromo-1, 3-phthalic acid 54% g. mp 286-290°C (lit.26 mp = 287°C). |
