In vitro study | 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of serotonin by the essential amino acid L-tryptophan (LT). It is able to easily cross the blood-brain barrier and effectively increases serotonin synthesis in the central nervous system (CNS). 5-HTP administration has been shown to be effective in treating a variety of conditions, including depression, fibromyalgia, obesity due to overeating, chronic headaches, and insomnia. Clinical evidence suggests that 5-Hydroxytryptophan provides better relief of depression than placebo. |

properties | light gray-white fine powder with slight gas and slightly salty taste. |
mechanism of action | 5-hydroxytryptophan is the precursor of human serotonin, can help the body balance this hormone to control the body's mood, improve sleep quality, and can effectively control appetite, improve the sensitivity of the satiety center, in the process of weight loss diet control, reduce hunger, make the weight loss process easier and easier to achieve. |
biological activity | 5-hydroxytrophophan (5-HTP, NSC-92523), in the presence of Vitamin B6, the enzyme aromatic-L-amino acid decarboxylase is decarboxylated to serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT). |
Use | use as a Biochemical reagent 1. Anti-depression: 5-HTP is a metabolite of the amino acid tryptophan, it is the precursor of human serotonin and is used to synthesize serotonin (an important substance that plays a role in the function of common nerves and brain). Helps with normal nerve material and brain function and can treat depression. 2, relieve stress and improve sleep: can help the body balance this hormone to control the body's mood, improve sleep quality, can effectively inhibit pain, thus 5-hydroxytryptophan was also used to treat Sleep Initiation and Maintenance Disorders. |
