1-Deoxy-D-xylitol (aq., 1 M) is a solution containing 1 mole of deoxy-D-xylitol. The following is an introduction to its nature, use, preparation and safety information:

Properties: 1-Deoxy-d-xylitol is a colorless to light yellow liquid, soluble in water and some organic solvents. It is a stable compound, but prolonged contact with oxygen should be avoided.

Uses: 1-Deoxy-d-xylitol is an important intermediate used for the synthesis of biologically active substances such as isoprenediol and isoprenediol produced by plants and microorganisms. It is also used to synthesize chemicals such as pharmaceuticals, fragrances and cosmetics.

Preparation method: There are two main methods for preparing 1-deoxy-D-xylitol. One is the conversion of D-xylose to 1-deoxy-D-xylitol by an enzyme-catalyzed reaction using Ponzi enzymes. The other is through chemical synthesis, using a chemical reaction to convert D-xylose into 1-deoxy-D-xylitol.
