Introduction | erbium is a chemical element, its chemical symbol is Er, its atomic number is 68, belonging to the lanthanide, is one of the rare earth elements. Erbium is silver gray metal, soft, insoluble in water and alkali, soluble in acid. The salts and oxides were pink to red. Its first ionization energy is 6.10 electron volts. The chemical and physical properties of dysprosium and dysprosium are almost identical. The isotopes of erbium are: 162Er, 164Er, 166Er, 167Er, 168Er, 170Er. |
History of discovery | 1843, discovered by C.G.Mosander. He originally named the oxide of erbium terbium oxide, therefore, in the early German literature, terbium oxide and erbium oxide are confused. It was not until 1860 that this was corrected. |
