| In vitro study | CHAPS (0.5 %) is able to stabilize complexes between DNA and DNA-binding factors such as AP-1, SPI, GATA-1 and α-regulated factor ISGF3, and retains their biochemical activity. CHAPS can prevent dissociation of mononucleosomes diluted to sub-nanomolar concentrations. |

75621-03-3 - Introduction
CHAPS is a non-denaturing zwitterionic sulfobetaine detergent. It is mild and can dissolve membrane proteins and receptors. It can be used to disrupt protein-protein interactions. It is a derivative of naturally occurring bile salts. It has a smaller micelle molecular weight (6,150) and a higher critical micelle concentration (6-10mM), making it removable from the sample by dialysis.
