1. The methyl piperidine is reacted with acetic anhydride to obtain N acetyl -4-methyl piperidine.
2. N-acetyl -4-methyl piperidine is reacted with hydrocyanic acid ester to obtain N-formyl-N-(4-methylpiperidin-1-yl) carboxamide.
3. Reaction of N-formyl-N-(4-methylpiperidin-1-yl) carboxamide with ethyl 2-bromoacetate to give ethyl 2-(4-methylpiperidin-1-yl) acetate.
4. Finally, 2-(4-methylpiperidin-1-yl) ethyl acetate is reacted with uracil to obtain the final product ethyl 2-[4-(hydroxymethyl)piperidin-1-yl]pyrimidine-5-carboxylate.
