9,9-dimethyl-9H-xanthene - Introduction
9,9-dimethylxanthene (DMOZ for short) is an organic compound with the molecular formula C16H12O, which contains the skeleton of Xanthene and has two methyl groups at its 9,9-position.
DMOZ has the following properties:
1. Appearance: DMOZ is colorless needle-like crystal or white crystalline powder.
2. Melting point: The melting point of DMOZ is about 167-171 degrees Celsius.
3. Solubility: DMOZ soluble in organic solvents, such as benzene, toluene and dichloromethane, insoluble in water.
Use:
1. DMOZ can be used as an organic light-emitting material with high fluorescence quantum yield and low excitation energy requirements, and can be used in the fields of organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) and organic photovoltaics (OPV).
2. DMOZ can also be used as a dye intermediate, and has applications in the fields of dyes, photosensitizers and organic synthesis.
Method:
The preparation of DMOZ usually adopts chemical synthesis method. One commonly used synthetic route is to introduce a methyl group at the 9,9-position of the Xanthene molecule by a methylation reaction to give 9,9-dimethylxanthene.
Safety Information:
DMOZ has no apparent toxicity or hazardous characteristics reported under regular operation. However, as an organic compound, it is still necessary to follow laboratory safety procedures, avoid contact with skin and eyes, maintain good ventilation, and avoid inhaling its dust. Local codes and regulations shall be followed in handling and disposal.
