BDE-30 - Introduction
Tribromodiphenyl ether (Chemical formula: C12H8Br3O) is an organic compound with a bromine-substituted benzene ring. It is a colorless crystal or white powder with a unique aroma. The following is information about its nature, use and preparation:
Nature:
1. Melting Point: about 68-70 degrees Celsius
2. Boiling point: About 290 degrees Celsius
3. Density: about 2.27 g/cm
4. Solubility: Soluble in organic solvents, such as ethanol, benzene and chloroform, insoluble in water.
Use:
1. Flame retardant: due to the flame retardant properties of three BDE, commonly used in electronic products, plastic products and building materials as a flame retardant, can effectively delay the spread of fire.
2. Drug intermediates: tribrominated diphenyl ether can be used as intermediates for the preparation of pesticides, antibacterial agents, antiparasitic drugs, etc.
3. Other uses: It can also be used in organic synthesis reactions, such as as catalysts, electrochemical impurity analysis, etc.
Preparation Method:
There are many methods for preparing tribromodiphenyl ether, one of which is a common method by reacting phenol with bromine under alkali catalysis. The specific steps are as follows:
1. Take phenol and bromine according to the molar ratio of 1:2 into the reaction vessel.
2. Under the action of the catalyst, the reaction vessel is heated to an appropriate temperature (usually about 80-100 degrees Celsius) for several hours.
3. After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, and an appropriate amount of water was added to generate a precipitate.
4. After the precipitate is filtered, washed and dried, the final product tribromodiphenyl ether can be obtained.
It should be noted that the reaction for preparing tribromodiphenyl ether needs to be carried out under appropriate conditions to avoid excessive use of the catalyst or too high reaction temperature to avoid side reactions or reduce the yield.
