preparation | 2, 5-dichlorophenethylamine was prepared as follows: at 0 °c, to 2-(2, to a solution of 5-dichlorophenyl) acetonitrile (34.5g,185mmol) in MeOH(1700mL) was added NiCl2 · 6H2O(4.45g,18.7mmol). After 10 minutes, the solids from the initial green suspension entered the solution. Methyl chloroformate (38.4g,406mmol) was added via syringe over 10 minutes, followed by the addition of NaBH4(41.4g,1.09mol) in 8 small portions at 0 °c over 30 minutes. Evolution of the gas was observed and the reaction mixture darkened. After the addition was completed, the resulting mixture was stirred at 20 °c for 1 hour. LCMS analysis detected a yield of the desired product of 48%,2, 5-dichlorophenethylamine of 32%. |
