| In vitro study | Etoferrate increases cytoplasmic glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase activity and total carnitine concentration in rat liver, it decreases the concentration of triglycerides and cholesterol. In rat liver microsomes, etoferate reduced plasma concentrations of cholesterol, triacylglycerol, free fatty acids (FFA), and glycerol, as well as total and unesterified cholesterol. Etoferrate increases cytosolic glycerol-3-p dehydrogenase activity in rat hepatocytes, which decreases both microsomal HMG-CoA reductase and cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase activity, and does not affect acyl-coenzyme A: cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT). Etoferate reduces the effect of lipolytic products in the liver by releasing lipolytic products from adipose tissue and intrinsic hepatic metabolism. Epididymal fat of fed rats was cultured under basal conditions and Etofibrate stimulated the rate of fatty acid reesterification. |
