Formthioamide - Introduction
Thiocarboxamide, chemical formula CH3NS, is a thiol derivative. The following are the properties, uses, preparation and safety information of thiocarbamide:
Nature:
Thioformamide is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor. It is a flammable item, the vapor is heavy and flammable, and can form an explosive mixture. Its solubility is good, almost soluble in water.
Use:
Thiocarboxamide can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It is usually used in the production of catalysts, the preparation of vulcanizing agents and the manufacture of drugs. In addition, other compounds derived from thioformamide are commonly used in the fields of pesticides, rubber additives and dyes.
Preparation Method:
Thiocarboxamide can be obtained by the reaction of thionyl chloride with methylamine. First, sulfuryl chloride was slowly added dropwise to the ice-cold methylamine solution, requiring stirring during the reaction. After completion of the reaction, the product thiocarboxamide can be purified by distillation.
Safety Information:
Thioformamide is irritating and should avoid skin contact and inhalation. Personal protective equipment such as protective gloves, protective glasses and masks should be worn during use. In addition, thiocarbamide is flammable and should be kept away from heat sources and open flames, stored in a cool, ventilated place, and stored separately from oxidants.
