Abstract:
The biological activities of the parallel extracts of cortex phellodendri with petroleum ether (30~60)℃, ethanol, acetone, methanol and water against the spider mite of cinnabar were systematically studied. The different extracts were prepared to the corresponding concentration of 10 mg/mL, and its contact toxicity to the cinnabar Spider mite (48h) was determined, the acetone and methanol extracts had the highest mortality rate to the Carmine spider mite, which was 100% at the corrected Mortality Rate after 48h of treatment, and the contact toxicity of other solvent extracts in the same group was significantly different (p 〈 0.05). The results of toxicity test showed that the parallel extract of methanol was the most toxic to spider mite, 2.2723mg/mL, and its 95% confidence limit was 1.6072~3.2125mg/mL; the effect of the parallel extract of acetone was almost the same as that of methanol.

Abstract:
objective: to investigate the effect of cortex phellodendri extract berberine on intimal hyperplasia and inflammatory factors after carotid artery balloon injury in rats. Methods the carotid artery balloon injury model was established by using 350-400g male Wistar rats. 40 model rats were randomly divided into model Group and berberine group with 20 rats in each group, the berberine group was given berberine 25. mg/kg intraperitoneal injection, 1 times a day, for 14 d. Another 20 male Wistar rats were selected as sham operation group only by neck incision. After the end of the experiment, the rats in each group were killed and the left carotid artery was taken for HE staining after Paraffin embedding, membrane area and the ratio of intima and membrane area (I/M), using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to detect serum inflammatory factors in each group [monocyte chemoattractant protein -1( MCP-1),C-reactive protein (CRP ), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) and prostaglandin E2( PGE2)] levels, at the same time, the levels of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) mRNA and phospholipase A2 mRNA in the left carotid artery were detected by real-time quantitative PCR. Results in sham operation group, there was no intimal hyperplasia, and it was smooth and complete. In model group, there was severe intimal hyperplasia and severe lumen stenosis, lumen stenosis was significantly relieved. Intimal area, I/M and serum MCP-1,CRP,TGF-β, the levels of PGE2 and COX-2 mRNA and phospholipase A2 mRNA in left carotid artery were significantly higher than those in sham operation group (all P <0.05); the above indexes in berberine group were significantly lower than those in model group (all P <0.05), but there was no significant difference in CRP between berberine group and sham operation group (P>0.05), the levels of other indexes were significantly higher than those in sham operation group (all P <0.05). Conclusion cortex phellodendri extract berberine can inhibit the intimal hyperplasia and inflammatory reaction after carotid artery balloon injury in rats, which may be related to the inhibition of the expression level of the rate-limiting enzyme of inflammatory reaction.

Licorice is a kind of plant with great medicinal value, which is used in both Chinese and Western medicine. Western medicine has used licorice as an expectorant, antitussive and sweetening additive since Guxilat. In the ancient Chinese pharmacology "Shen Nong's Materia Medica", licorice is described as a drug that strengthens muscles and bones, increases physical strength and treats wounds, and it is listed as a top grade, this grass is called the King of all medicines, and there are few people who do not use it.
In traditional Chinese medicine, licorice is classified as heart, lung, spleen and stomach Meridian; It has the effects of tonifying spleen and Qi, clearing heat and detoxifying, eliminating phlegm and relieving cough, relieving urgency and pain, and reconciling various drugs. It is used to treat spleen and stomach weakness, fatigue, palpitations, shortness of breath, cough and phlegm, abdominal and limb spasm, acute pain, carbuncle swelling, sore and toxic, and relieve drug toxicity and severity. The dosage is 1.5-9mg.
Studies have shown that licorice can inhibit monoamine oxidase, inhibit aldose reductase caused by diabetes, spasmolysis and analgesia, prevention and treatment of viral hepatitis, treatment of Senile osteoporosis, anti-Leishmania, anti-cancer, anti-AIDS (AIDS) virus and other effects.
Its effect is reflected in whitening and sunscreen
The whitening effect of licorice extract is mainly through inhibiting the activity of tyrosinase and DOPA pigment intermutase (TRP-2) and hindering the polymerization of 5,6-dihydroxyindole (DHl), in order to prevent the formation of melanin, so as to achieve the effect of whitening skin.
In licorice extract, the ingredients with sunscreen efficacy are generally flavonoids. Due to the conjugation of the molecular structure of licorice flavonoids, both ultraviolet and visible light show strong absorption. Molecules that absorb high-energy ultraviolet light transition from the ground state to the activated state, and then from the activated state back to the ground state, releasing harmless low-energy rays. Compared with synthetic sunscreen, licorice extract used as a sunscreen does not need to add antioxidants in the formula, does not stimulate the skin, stable absorption capacity.
