Physical and Chemical Properties | White crystalline powder, soluble in methanol, ethanol, DMSO and other organic solvents, derived from Veratrum. |
In vitro study | Compared with the control group, chondrocytes exposed to 25 μg/ml jervine showed a significant decrease in cell number, while there was no change in cell morphology or the intensity of Alcian blue staining. |
In vivo study | Embryos exposed to jervine produce craniofacial bone malformations similar to the phenotype of Shh mutant embryos. The lower jaws of these embryos are significantly reduced in size, usually resulting in the loss of incisor teeth. Treatment of pregnant mice with jervine causes their embryos to develop jaw defects with a phenotype similar to that of prx1. |
