Isosativenediol - Introduction
Isosativenediol (isopentyl glycol) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C5H12O2. It is a colorless liquid with a low boiling and freezing point.
Isopentyl glycol is mainly used in the synthesis of polyester resins, such as polyethylene glycol and polyester elastomers. It can also be used as an additive for dyes, paints, solvents and lubricants.
Isopentyl glycol can be prepared in a variety of ways. The common method is to react Glutaric acid ester with methanol or ethanol. Specifically, dimethyl glutarate or diethyl glutarate can be reacted with excess methanol or ethanol and purified by distillation to obtain isopentyl glycol.
Regarding the safety of isopentyl glycol, it is a relatively stable compound with no obvious toxicity to the human body and the environment. But still pay attention to the use of follow the safety procedures, avoid contact with the skin and eyes. When using isopentyl glycol, it is recommended to wear protective gloves and goggles and ensure good ventilation.
