Physical and Chemical Properties | Crystals from xylene, melting point 209-213 °c (decomposition). Yellow crystal or crystalline powder, odorless and tasteless. More soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide, difficult to dissolve in methylene chloride, acetone, chloroform or acetic acid, very difficult to dissolve in ethanol, methanol or ether, a few insoluble in water. Subacute toxicity (m/kg): The maximum non-impact dose was 4 per day in rats, 5 in baboons and 0.5 in dogs. Chronic toxicity: baboons were given 1 mg/kg daily, visible peptic ulcer and lesions of the renal papilla. |
Use | Antiphlogistic antipyretic analgesic |
In vitro study | Tenoxicam (Ro-12-0068) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). |
In vivo study | Tenoxicam (Ro-12-0068) was administered intraperitoneally immediately after BCAO. Histological analyses show that ischemia produced significant striatal as well as hippocampal lesions which were reversed by the Tenoxicam (Ro-12-0068) treatment. Tenoxicam (Ro-12-0068) also significantly reduced, to control levels, the increased myeloperoxidase activity in hippocampus homogenates observed after ischemia. |
Risk Codes | R23/24/25 - Toxic by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed. R36/37/38 - Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin. |
Safety Description | S36/37/39 - Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection. S45 - In case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show the label whenever possible.) S36 - Wear suitable protective clothing. S26 - In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. S36/37 - Wear suitable protective clothing and gloves. |
