Methyltris(sec-butylamino)silane - Introduction
1-methyl-N,N',N''-tris(1-methylpropyl)silanetriamine (abbreviated as MTBAS) is an organosilicon compound. Its chemical formula is (CH3)3SiNHC(CH3)3, where N is a nitrogen atom.
Regarding the properties of MTBAS, it is a colorless to light yellow liquid with a pungent odor at room temperature. It is soluble in a variety of organic solvents, such as alcohols, ethers and hydrocarbons.
The main use of MTBAS is as a crosslinking accelerator in chemicals, especially for the combination of silicone rubber and fillers. It can react with the active hydrogen in silicone rubber, thereby enhancing its crosslinking ability and mechanical properties.
The method for preparing MTBAS is usually obtained by reacting tri-sec-butylamine with chloromethylsilane. The specific procedure involves slowly adding chloromethylsilane dropwise to tri-sec-butylamine at room temperature and stirring the reaction mixture during the reaction. After completion of the reaction, the target product was obtained by distillation.
For safety information about MTBAS, it is an irritant substance that may cause irritation to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Therefore, in the use of the process should pay attention to wear protective equipment, such as gloves and goggles. At the same time, to avoid direct contact with the skin and inhalation of its vapor or spray. Good ventilation should be ensured during operation and unsafe reactions with other chemicals should be avoided. During storage and handling, MTBAS should be placed in a closed container and away from fire and oxidizing agents.
