N-epsilon-(tert-Butoxycarbonyl)-L-lysine are commonly used as protecting groups in biochemical synthesis, especially in peptide synthesis. This protecting group can protect the amino group of the lysine from unwanted reactions with other reactants during the synthesis of the polypeptide chain. Once the synthesis is complete, the N(e)-Boc protecting group can be removed by acidic hydrolysis.
Method:
N-epsilon-(tert-Butoxycarbonyl)-L-lysine are generally prepared starting from L-lysine by introducing a Boc protecting group at the N-terminus. First, N-epsilon-(tert-Butoxycarbonyl)-L-lysine was obtained by adding an appropriate amount of dimethyl sulfoxide and reacting with Boc2O (T-butoxycarbonyl chloride).
