In vitro study | Oxaprozin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and antipyretic properties. Oxaprozin is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, dysmenorrhea, and to relieve moderate pain. The anti-inflammatory effect of Oxaprozin is thought to be due to its inhibition of cyclooxygenase in platelets that blocks prostaglandin synthesis. The antipyretic effect may be due to an effect on the hypothalamus, leading to an increase in peripheral blood flow, vasodilation, and subsequent heat dissipation. Oxaprozin exhibits lower COX-2 selectivity, implying higher selectivity for COX-1. |
Risk Codes | R20/21/22 - Harmful by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed. R36/37/38 - Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin. |
