Use | Pyridyl dichromate (Pyridinium dichromate,PDC) is a mild oxidant like PCC. It is orange-yellow crystals at room temperature and is used to oxidize alcohol to aldehyde to a limited extent. It was invented by E.J.Corey. The reagent itself is weakly acidic, so it is often used with buffers such as sodium acetate. It is used as an oxidant for the conversion of primary alcohols into aldehydes and ketones, acetals into esters, and didehydroketones into ketones in the presence of tert-butyl hydrogen peroxide. |
