PLGA - Introduction
PLGA(PLGA) is a biodegradable polymer material with the following properties:
1. Biocompatibility: PLGA can be degraded by organisms and will not cause obvious toxicity or irritation to the body.
2. Adjustable degradation rate: The degradation rate of PLGA can be achieved by adjusting the ratio of polylactic acid to polyglycolic acid, ranging from a few days to several years. This makes PLGA widely used in the field of medicine.
3. Versatility: PLGA can be prepared into microspheres, nanoparticles, films and other forms, and can be controlled release drugs. It can also change its physical and chemical properties by adjusting the synthesis conditions to adapt to different applications.
PLGA has a wide range of uses, some of the main applications include:
1. Drug delivery system: PLGA can be used as a drug carrier to release drugs slowly in the body, improving the bioavailability and efficacy of drugs.
2. Tissue engineering: PLGA can be prepared as scaffold material to promote tissue regeneration and repair.
3. Gene delivery system: PLGA can be used for gene delivery to help introduce gene vectors into cells.
PLGA is generally synthesized by cyclic polymerization. Lactic acid and glycolic acid are first esterified to form PLGA.
Regarding the safety of PLGA, studies have shown that PLGA is considered a relatively safe material and is widely used in medical equipment and drug delivery systems. However, there may be differences in individual responses to PLGA. Therefore, when using products prepared by PLGA, attention should be paid to corresponding safety assessments and clinical trials to ensure their safety and reliability.
