Pygeoresinol - Introduction
(-)-Lyoniresinol ((-)-Lyoniresinol) is a natural lignin compound that belongs to the diphenylpropanoid group in chemical structure. It is commonly found in the resin of southern candle Wood (Lyonothamnus floribundus), hence the name.
(-)-Lyoniresinol exists in solid form and has colorless to pale yellow crystalline properties. It is insoluble in water, but has some solubility in some organic solvents such as ethanol, dichloromethane and benzene. Its melting point is about 125-130 ℃. In a chemical reaction, it can be altered via photo-oxidation or hydrogenation reactions.
(-)-Lyoniresinol has a wide range of applications in the fields of medicine and cosmetics. It is used as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent to fight the activity of free radicals and help reduce inflammatory reactions.
