Physical and Chemical Properties | 3K2S2O3-5H2O = 661.07, colorless orthorhombic crystal. When heated without melting is decomposed into potassium sulfide and potassium sulfate. Soluble in water, the aqueous solution is weak alkaline. In case of acid, sulfur dioxide is released by decomposition. (2) K2S2O3 · 1/2H2O = 196.34, colorless monoclinic deliquescent crystal. The relative density of 2.590 (anhydrous 2.23),200 deg C when the loss of crystal water, continue to heat the decomposition. Soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol. Reductive. It is prepared by coboiling potassium sulfite with sulfur. |
Use | Used as analytical reagents and reducing agents, also used in the pharmaceutical industry |
