application | dibutyl succinate is commonly used as industrial plasticizer, insect (such as cockroaches and ants) repellent, organic synthesis intermediate, food additive and gas chromatography stationary liquid, etc. |
Preparation | Crystalline ferric chloride is a good catalyst for the synthesis of dibutyl succinate. Its only disadvantage is that it is easy to absorb moisture and dissolve in the reaction system. Therefore, a certain amount of iron waste liquid is produced during the post-treatment process, which brings certain trouble to the production. When looking for iron reagents, it was found that iron ammonium alum (ammonium ferric sulfate dodecahydrate NH4Fe(SO4)· 12H2O) is a good catalyst. It not only has the advantages of crystalline ferric chloride, but also is very stable and not easy to absorb moisture. More importantly, it forms a loose spherical insoluble solid after the reaction, which is easy to separate, more convenient to operate, does not corrode the reaction equipment, and the reaction liquid is very light in color, it is a cheap and practical catalyst that uses iron ammonium alum to catalyze the synthesis of dibutyl succinate. Its favorable conditions are: 0.05mol of succinic acid, 0.14mol of n-butanol, 0.7g of iron ammonium alum, 5mL of toluene as water-carrying agent, reflux water separation for 2 hours, and the yield of dibutyl succinate is greater than 98%. |
