Water Solubility | mol/100mol H2O: 10.73 (0°C), 13.52 (25°C), 26.38 (93°C); solid phase Mg(ClO3)2 · 6H2O (0°C, 25°C), Mg(ClO3)2 · 2H2O (93°C) [KRU93] |
Physical and Chemical Properties | Chemical properties colorless orthorhombic crystal needle or flake crystal. Relative density 1.80(25 ℃). Melting point 35 ℃. Boiling point 120 ℃ (decomposition). Easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol and acetone. At 35°C, it partially melts and transforms into tetrahydrate. It has strong hygroscopicity. Not easy to explode and burn. It is more stable than other chlorates, mixed with sulfur, phosphorus, organic matter, etc., and is in danger of causing explosion and combustion through friction and impact. It is significantly corrosive to iron that loses oxide film, and less corrosive to stainless steel and enamel. |
Use | Uses for cotton pre-harvest defoliant, wheat ripening agent, herbicide, desiccant. It is also used as a medicinal product. |

Toxicity
20% or 40% magnesium chlorate solution splashes on the skin, which can make the skin red and have burning pain, and should be thoroughly washed with water immediately. When suffering from acute dermatitis, it can be washed with lead water lotion and boric acid solution, and coated with neutral ointment. If it is accidentally splashed into the eyes, wash it fully with cold boiled water, and drop it into the eyes with 30% sulfaacetyl. The maximum allowable concentration is recommended to be 10 mg/m3.
production personnel should wear work clothes, masks, latex gloves and other labor protection supplies to protect respirators and skin. Before picking cotton, apply the medicine first, and start working on the ground after at least 7 days.
production method
metathesis method adds sodium chlorate saturated solution to a liquid conditioner, preheats to 60~70 ℃, adds barium chloride to remove chromate from the solution, and sends it to the reactor, and adds halide blocks for metathesis reaction. Then add a saturated solution of barium chloride and potassium permanganate, remove the sulfate and ferrous salt brought in by the halide block, filter out the precipitate, and evaporate the filtrate to 116~123 ℃, precipitate a large amount of sodium chloride, Immediately filter and remove while hot, and send the filtrate into the crystallizer to separate unreacted sodium chlorate at about 35 ℃. Magnesium chlorate refined solution is evaporated and concentrated at 140~145 ℃ and then cooled to obtain magnesium chlorate finished product. Its
