diethoxy(methyl)octylsilane - Introduction
Octylmethyldiethoxysilane is an organosilicon compound with the chemical formula C12H28O2Si. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a pungent odor. It has a density of 0.834g/cm3, a boiling point of 239-242°C and a flash point of 97°C.
Octylmethyldiethoxysilane is commonly used as a synthetic intermediate for silicone materials. It can be used as a moisturizer, weathering agent and water resistance improvement agent in inks, coatings and adhesives. In addition, it can also be used to improve the heat resistance, weather resistance and adhesion properties of plastics and rubbers, to enhance the water resistance of cellulose-based materials, and as a solvent and stabilizer in surfactants and cosmetics.
The preparation of Octylmethyldiethoxysilane is generally obtained by a methylation reaction and a silanization reaction. First, hydrogen and methyl aluminum chloride are used as catalysts, and the methylating agent and octanol are reacted under certain temperature, pressure and time conditions to obtain octyl methyl ethyl ether. Subsequently, octylmethylsilane is formed by reaction with silanol and sodium borohydride. Finally, it is reacted with ethanol in the presence of an acid catalyst to obtain Octylmethyldiethoxysilane.
Octylmethyldiethoxysilane is irritating and corrosive and should be avoided in contact with skin and eyes. Wear protective glasses and gloves when using, and make sure to operate in a well-ventilated place. During storage, contact with oxidants and strong acids should be avoided. If swallowed or mistakenly into the eye, should immediately seek medical treatment.
