ethanesulfonicacid,2-(cocomethylamino),sodiumsalt - Introduction
SODIUM-N-COCONUT ACID N-METHYL TAURATE, also known as MES-Na, is an organic compound. Its chemical formula is C19H38NNaO4S, and the relative molecular mass is 415.55g/mol.
Nature:
MES-Na is a white to off-white crystalline powder, soluble in water. It is a buffer with good buffering properties. Its pH value is between 5.5 and 6.5, which is an ideal buffer range for many biochemical experiments and analyses. The compound is stable at room temperature and can maintain good buffer properties within a certain temperature range.
Use:
MES-Na is mainly used as a buffer in biochemical and molecular biology experiments. It can be used in cell culture, DNA/RNA separation and electrophoresis, protein electrophoresis and other experiments to maintain the desired pH range. In addition, MES-Na can also be used as a buffer solution for other chemical and biological experiments.
Preparation Method:
The preparation of MES-Na is usually obtained by reacting 2-(methylamino)-ethanesulfonic acid with coconut acid chloride. First, 2-(methylamino)-ethanesulfonic acid is introduced in an appropriate solvent, and then Cocoyl chloride is gradually added, controlling the reaction temperature and reaction time. Finally, by appropriate treatment and purification, the MES-Na pure product is obtained.
Safety Information:
MES-Na are generally considered to be relatively safe compounds, but attention should be paid to proper safe operation. When in use, it is recommended to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as lab gloves and face masks. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical treatment. During storage and handling, contact with oxidizing agents and strong acids should be avoided to prevent dangerous reactions. It should be stored in a dry, cool, ventilated place, away from fire and flammable materials. When gas, steam or smoke is generated during use, ensure that you operate in a well-ventilated environment.
