overview | tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) is a commonly used phase transfer catalyst, which can increase the reaction rate or effectively promote a variety of chemical reactions. The reagent can be used as an iodine source to generate iodides needed for the reaction in situ, which can avoid the use of some unstable and expensive iodides. In addition, this reagent is also widely used in the dealkylation reaction of esters and ethers. |
Properties | Tetrabutylammonium iodide is an organic ammonium compound, which is a white crystal or powder, stable at room temperature and pressure. Soluble in water. |
application | tetrabutylammonium iodide is an organic ammonium compound, which can be used as a phase transfer catalyst and polarographic analysis reagent. TBAI as a phase transfer catalyst can effectively promote the alkylation of nucleophilic substrates such as alcohols, amines and phospholipids. In the two-phase reaction system, TBAI is more important as a phase transfer catalyst to promote the reaction. |
Use | Used as polarographic analysis reagent Ion pair chromatography reagent, phase transfer catalyst, polarographic analysis reagent. Organic synthesis. |
Production method | 1. In a round bottom flask with a reflux condenser, hold 200 ml of tri-n-butylamine and 100 ml of iodine n-butane. Heat on a steam bath for 65 hours, filter out the solids, wash with a small amount of ethyl acetate, and dissolve in the minimum amount of cold ethanol. The resulting solution was mixed with an equal volume of 10% potassium hydroxide ethanol solution and then poured into water. Part of the ethanol is evaporated under reduced pressure to obtain the iodide crystal. Recrystallized three times in anhydrous ethyl acetate to obtain 150 grams of product. |
