Triethylbenzyl amine hydroxide (TEBA) has the following properties: It is a colorless to slightly yellow liquid with a strong amine odor. It is soluble in water and organic solvents and has strong alkalinity.
TEBA has two main uses: one is as a catalyst to promote the formation of polymers in ethylene polymerization reactions. Second, as a preservative, can be used for wood protection, paint and paint anticorrosion, cellulose grass ketone paint and phenolic glue and other anti-corrosion treatment.
The preparation of TEBA is generally achieved by reacting ethylbenzylamine and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) at an appropriate temperature and reaction time.
