phenanthrene-9-carbaldehyde - Introduction
phenanthrene-9-carboxaldehyde(phenanthrene-9-carboxaldehyde) is an organic compound, the chemical formula is C15H10O, with a light yellow crystal or crystalline powder. The following is a description of its nature, use, preparation and safety information:
Nature:
-Appearance: light yellow crystal or crystalline powder
-Molecular weight: 206.24g/mol
-melting point: 132-133 ℃
-Solubility: Soluble in alcohol, ether and organic solvents, insoluble in water
-instability: easy to be decomposed by heat, easy to occur oxidation reaction when exposed to light
Use:
- phenanthrene-9-carboxaldehyde can be used as an important intermediate in organic synthesis and can participate in many organic reactions, such as reduction, oxidation, substitution and other reactions.
-It is also widely used in drug synthesis, the preparation of chemical reagents, and the production of organic dyes and coatings.
Preparation Method:
-phenanthrene-9-carboxaldehyde can be prepared by oxidation of benzo α-pyranene. First, benzo α-pyranene reacts with a sulfuric acid-potassium permanganate solution to produce phenanthrene-9-carboxaldehyde carbinol diols. The methanol diol is then dehydrated under acidic conditions to produce phenanthrene-9-carboxaldehyde.
Safety Information:
-Because phenanthrene-9-carboxaldehyde is irritating to skin and eyes, avoid direct contact with skin and eyes. In case of accidental contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical help.
-During operation and storage, avoid contact with oxidants, acids and other substances to prevent fire and explosion.
-Need to use in a well-ventilated place and avoid inhaling its vapor.
-Due to the lack of sufficient toxicity data, it should be considered as a potentially toxic compound and should be handled in accordance with safe operating procedures.
