| Physical and Chemical Properties | Soluble in water is orange-red, soluble in ethanol is orange, soluble in acetone and glycol ether. The addition of concentrated hydrochloric acid to the aqueous solution produces a reddish brown precipitate; the addition of concentrated sodium hydroxide solution is red, orange and brown. The dye is reddish-purple in concentrated sulfuric acid and dark pink after dilution; it is dark blue-red in concentrated nitric acid, and then turns into orange. |

- acid red 97 is usually prepared by reducing the dinitrate of methyl orange.
-In the preparation process, methyl orange dinitrate is first reacted with sodium nitrite to obtain methylamino benzylidene orange. Then it is reacted with sulfuric acid and acidified with hydrochloric acid to obtain acid red 97.
