20098-16-2 - Introduction

Tricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decane-1,4-diol, also known as butanediol, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H10O2, which has two hydroxyl (-OH) functional groups, one hydroxyl group is attached to the first carbon of the adamantane and the other hydroxyl group is attached to the fourth carbon of the adamantane. Tricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decane-1,4-diol is a colorless, odorless liquid, soluble in water and a variety of organic solvents at room temperature.

Nature:
Tricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decane-1,4-diol is a stable compound, non-volatile, non-flammable, does not affect the skin and eyes, but may cause allergic reactions, therefore, personal protection should be paid attention to during operation.

Use:
Tricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decane-1,4-diol is an important chemical raw material with a wide range of uses in the chemical industry, including:
1. As a monomer for synthesizing high polymers, such as polyurethane, polyester, Polyether, etc;
2. Used as a plasticizer, dispersant and thickener in coatings and inks;
3. Used as lubricant, candle forming agent and surfactant;
4. Used as dye, medicine and pesticide intermediates.

Method:
Tricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decane-1,4-diol can be prepared by two main methods:
1. Epoxidation method: Tricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decane-1 is obtained by epoxidizing 1,4-butanediol;
2. Hydrogenation method: Tricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decane-1 is obtained by hydrogenating 1,4-butanediol.
