biological activity
Pulegone is the main chemical component of the essential oil of mint-oregano plant Calamintha nepeta (L.) Savi, and is also one of the insect repellents of poultry. The molecular target of Pulegone repellent effect in avian species is nociceptive TRP anchor egg 1 (TRPA1). Pulegone stimulates TRPM8 and TRPA1 channels in chicken sensory neurons, and inhibits the former but not the latter at high concentrations.
