1-(2-Hydroxyethyl) - Introduction
N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)succinimide(N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)butyramide) is an organic compound. Its molecular formula is C6H13NO2 and its relative molecular mass is 131.17g/mol.
N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)succinimide is a colorless to pale yellow liquid, soluble in water and some organic solvents.
Its main use is as a substitute reagent for the hydrogen phosphate diester (HOPD) group in organic synthesis, and is used to synthesize organic molecules with pharmaceutical activity. It is also commonly used as a softener, lubricant and preservative.
The preparation of N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)succinimide can be obtained by reacting succinamide with 2-chloroethanol in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The reaction is usually carried out at room temperature.
