Introduction
2-methylthiobenzothiazole is an important chemical reagent, which is widely used in biology, medicine and chemical industry. 2-Methylthiobenzothiazole can be obtained by methylation of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole through dimethyl sulfate.
Preparation
16.7g of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole is added into 100ml of dichloromethane, 11.5g of triethylamine is added, all materials are stirred and dissolved, 13.1g of dimethyl sulfate is added drop by drop, stirring for 2 hours at 45 degrees Celsius after dropping, TLC tracking reaction is completed, the reaction mixture is washed with water, and evaporated to dry. The residual solution was dissolved with 100ml absolute ethanol, stirred and crystallized at about 0 degrees Celsius, and benzothiazol-2-yl-methylsulfide (I) was precipitated in the form of white crystals. Filtration and drying in a vacuum drying oven to obtain 17.6g of 2-methylthiobenzothiazole.
