3. The obtained 3-fluorobenzyl lithium is reacted with butyric anhydride to produce 4-(3-fluorophenyl) butyric acid.
4. Finally, 4-(3-Fluorophenyl) butyric acid was esterified or cyanidated with sodium cyanide or sodium trifluoroacetate to prepare 4-(3-Fluorophenyl)oxane-4-carbonitrile.
