2. the dimethyl adipate p-methoxy styrene ester is converted into 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-oxopentanoic acid methyl ester by esterification reaction.
3. Finally, methyl 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-oxopentanoic acid is converted into 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-oxopentanoic acid by hydrolysis.
