Monoglyme - Uses and production methods
Uses are mainly used as solvents and organic synthesis intermediates
It is mainly used in the fields of polymer chemistry, electrochemistry and boron chemistry. It is also used as a solvent for resin, nitrocellulose, pharmaceutical extractant and organic synthesis intermediate.
The production method is obtained by reacting ethylene glycol monomethyl ether with metal sodium and methyl chloride. Refluxing ethylene glycol monomethyl ether with metal sodium until the metal sodium completely reacts, cooling to 45°C, and passing methyl chloride. After the reaction is completed, fractionation is carried out, and the 84-85.5 ℃ fraction is collected to obtain the finished product.

Ethylene glycol dimethyl ether is also called 1, 2-dimethoxyethane, dimethyl cellosolve, α,β-dimethoxyethane, Glyme, or GDME for short. Colorless liquid. It smells of ether. Ethylene glycol dimethyl ether is an aprotic polar solvent with superior performance, which is widely used in chemical industry, pharmaceutical extractant and organic intermediate synthesis. Ethylene glycol dimethyl ether produced by traditional Williamson synthesis method is prepared under the action of sodium ethoxide phase transfer catalyst. Due to the long reaction path and many by-products, the process is difficult to separate products. In order to obtain pure products, it is necessary to neutralize waste lye through acid. The whole process will produce a large amount of industrial salt and wastewater, which causes serious environmental pollution, and the use of liquid acid and alkali has high requirements on the corrosion resistance of the equipment. With the need to upgrade products and the improvement of people's awareness of environmental protection, the use of environmentally friendly solid acid catalyst process has become an urgent need.
