In vitro study | 2-Phenylethanamine (PEA) is soluble in water, ethanol, and ether. Phenethylamine is a skin irritant and possible sensitizer. 2-Phenylethanamine is believed to function as a neuromodulator or neurotransmitter (a trace amine). It is also found in many foods such as chocolate, especially after microbial fermentation. 2-Phenylethanamine is a precursor to the neurotransmitter phenylethanolamine. High levels of 2-Phenylethanamine have been found in the urine of schizophrenics but it is not significantly elevated in the serum or CSF of schizophrenics. Urinary levels of 2-Phenylethanamine are significantly lower in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. 2-Phenylethanamine is useful for scaring off rodent pests. |

biological activity | 2-phenomylethanamine is considered to be a neuromodulator or neurotransmitter. |
purpose | This product is an intermediate of jiangtangling. Also used in other organic synthesis. is an intermediate of the drug jiangtangling, also used in other organic synthesis organic synthesis. Scintillation counters are used as carbon dioxide absorbers. |
production method | is obtained by pressure catalytic hydrogenation of phenylacetonitrile. The liquid ammonia was introduced into phenylacetonitrile, cooled and absorbed, mixed with Raney nickel, and added into the autoclave to remove air and vent hydrogen. Reaction is carried out at 80-120 ° C. For 3H at about 10MPa until hydrogen is no longer absorbed. The reaction is cooled to depressurize and filtered. The filtrate was distilled under reduced pressure to collect a 90-93 ° C. (2kPa) fraction, I .e., 2-phenylethylamine. The yield was 90%. If 2-phenylethylamine hydrochloride (156-28-5) is prepared, the above filtrate is taken, adjusted to pH 3-4 with hydrochloric acid below 60 ° C., cooled to 5 ° C., allowed to stand for 8 hours and filtered. The hydrochloride is a plate-like crystal. Melting point 223-224 C (217 C). |
